Meet Officer Lester Jones
Middleburg's new police officer, Lester Jones, is a highly seasoned senior professional with many notable assets, one of which is his exceptional smile.
Officer Jones' broad experience includes assignments on both the tactical and fugitive squads; undercover work on the vice squad; domestic violence expertise and Sheriff's shift supervisor. He is a State Certified Officer who has trained police dogs, and keeps a photo of his German Shepherd on his desk.
His 16 years of service began after college with the Virginia State Troopers before he joined the Campbell County Sheriffs' Office.
Middleburg's need for a City Police Officer coincided with his need for a change, and when he drove over to see Middleburg and meet its citizens, he was very impressed with both.
"Everyone I met was nice to me, even though they didn't know who I was. I was so impressed by the people here and how they accepted me."
After his interview with Chief Webber, he was convinced that this was a highly professional department, one in which he would be proud to serve.
Members of Officer Jones' family also serve in law enforcement, which was a major factor in his choice of careers. More importantly, he likes people, and he believes that communication is the key to positive interaction with individuals. To be a good officer, you must like people in order to interact with them successfully.
He has always been very involved in sports, does weight training, ran track in high school and college, and has been a track coach.
"I like to get involved with kids," Officer Jones said. "I've helped with the Law Enforcement Explorer's Program, and the Big Brothers and Sisters," he continued.
"I was very involved with the churches back home, helping kids stay off the streets and get them interested in basketball. I've coached volleyball and basketball."
Middleburg will welcome Officer Jones. He's going to be a valuable member of the community.
