Mozart and Copland Perform at Llangollen

· By Lisa Leonard · From pages 18 of the print edition

The two great composers of course did not perform June 13th at the Llangollen Estate in Upperville, the Middleburg Chamber Players did, and it was an exceptional concert to attend. Mr. George Etheridge, Artistic Director, and conductor of the 'Players' had chosen Mozart's Divertimento in D and the Concerto for Clarinet in A to conduct as the first two performances of the afternoon. They received a standing ovation. Lisa Kadala was the featured soloist for the Concerto for Clarinet in A, also she is the Principal Clarinetist of the US Marine Band, serving under four Presidents Lisa has played at the White House for many functions.

Mr. Glenn S. Quader, Associate Director, and conductor for the Middleburg Chamber Players conducted Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring Suite in the original 13-instrument version. It was a spectacular performance of this piece that Copland had written as a ballet for Martha Graham. A piece that spans broad emotional moments from a vibrant excitement to the gentlest soft breath of the flute. Fortunately for the music lovers that could not attend the concert on Sunday a CD will be available for purchase, contact Mr. Etheridge at 540-687-6026, or email your request to mcpinfo@glennquader.com.

The next performance will be on Sunday, October 10th, 2004 at 3:00pm at the Sheila C. Johnson Performing Arts Center located at the Hill School in Middleburg, Virginia. The Middleburg Chamber Players takes a journey into the early influences of jazz on classical music of the early 20th Century. For the musical selections visit www.glennquader.com/mcp.html.
