Size Matters ~ The Geezer at Large

· By Seymour Surnow · From pages 11 of the print edition

In this new world where unexpurgated language and pornographic communication have become the norm, it is truly important to appreciate this well-worn maxim: Size Matters.

Why? Because size, in fact, does matter. What exactly do I mean? I mean, quite simply, that we, as Americans, have a collective responsibility to value, appreciate, and honor the most singular and remarkable thing that makes us citizens of this great purple-mountain-majesty'd land of ours-----the right TO VOTE.

The importance of the vote cannot be overestimated. Rather, it is, sadly, and all too often, undervalued. What an incredible right it is! What have we, communally, as a people, NOT gone through to guarantee this right for all of our citizens? Remember that voting is so important, so precious, that its results are even stolen, tampered with, hidden away in order to acquire and maintain power and control. This is an age-old truth, not only in recent history, but throughout the ages; for as long as there have been voters, there has been voter-fraud. Some might even call it flat-out election-theft.

History is littered with examples of tyranny and abuse of peoples, cities, states, and, yes, even nations as a direct result of electoral manipulation. In the 20th and now the 21st centuries, we have only to look at the daily press to confirm this reality: where there are votes to be had, there are those who will take them, by hook or by crook.

In free nations, and particularly in ours, (in AMERICA, of all places!), the apathy that leads to the acceptance of such tactics can and does set in. "My vote doesn't matter," I hear people say; "I've got more important things to do than vote," they say. HOGWASH! This is the biggest danger to us, the citizens, and it is the very thing that those whose goal is simply to govern without opposition, without dissent, without a singular, contrary voice, in a society they reassure us is "free," count upon.

The reason Size Matters today is that America is at a crossroads; the last Presidential election was compromised, plain and simple. While opinions may vary (but not THIS geezer's!), the fact remains that if more of us had taken the time to grasp that most inalienable of rights four years ago, we'd find ourselves in infinitely clearer waters today. There wouldn't be any of this "coulda, woulda, shoulda" nonsense.

SIZE DOES MATTER and EVERY VOTE COUNTS - whatever vote one casts.

We must get BIGGER.

We must PARTICIPATE.

We must VOTE.

Remember: SIZE MATTERS.
