Open for Business
Tax revenues from Middleburg's 300 licensed businesses provide well over 60% of the Town's revenue.
As the county grows, the pressure on Middleburg's infrastructure will grow proportionately, even if the town itself does not choose to expand beyond it's current geographical limits.
For the town to meet the needs of its citizens, and still maintain it's special character, it's businesses must either prosper, or be replaced by other businesses that generate revenue within the special context and ambience of the town
The Middleburg Town Council should allocate resources to promote "economic development" in Middleburg, in that special context: promoting tourism and traffic for Middleburg's businesses, and attracting new businesses, in ways that enhance and preserve the special character of the town. It's sad, but true, ad hoc simply won't work anymore.
