· From pages 22, 23 of the print edition

Three current students and 12 recent graduates of Foxcroft School have earned AP Scholar designation from the College Board for their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams taken last May. Of special note, Kathryn Grant, of Lovettsville, Va., and Elicia Williams of Middleburg, Va., who both graduated in May, became Foxcroft's first National Scholars, a designation granted to U.S. students who receive an average grade of at least 4 (out of 5) on all the AP Exams they have taken and grades of 4 of higher on eight or more of the tests.

"I think these are remarkable results considering the size of our school," said Academic Dean John Suitor, noting that Foxcroft's enrollment last year was 180 girls. The Middleburg, Va., school had 12 AP Scholars in 2003-04 and 9 the previous school year.

Grant, now a freshman at Bowdoin College, and Williams, who is attending the University of Virginia, were joined by four classmates as AP Scholars with Distinction. those classmates are: Alden Denegre of Middleburg and Duke University, Tommie Herbert, of Middleburg and Vanderbilt University, Sophie Massie of Washington, Va., and UVA, and Vanessa Vallecillo of Camden, N.J. and Columbia University.

All six students earned an average of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams they took and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of the exams.

Current Foxcroft junior Jillian Cairns of Chantilly, Va., and 2005 grads Jenna Hill (Leesburg, Va.) and Caroline Markoski (Alexandria, Va.) earned AP Scholar with Honor status, with a 3.5 average overall and 3 or higher on five of the tests.

Six students, including current seniors Clara Bertozzi-Villa of Bloomington, Ind., Amber Ogbolu of Ashland, Ky., were named AP Scholars, for receiving grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. The 2005 graduates who earned this honor are Emily Compton of Purcellville, Va., Liza Eldredge (Bluemont, Va.), Carly Leins (Boyce, Va.), and Randall Teeley (Upperville, Va.).
