· From pages 20 of the print edition

Foxcroft School senior standout Jessi Coil of Middleburg has been awarded an athletic scholarship to play field hockey next year at Kent State University in Ohio, the Middleburg, Va., school announced Friday.

Coil, who was named Loudoun/Fauquier Player of the Year by the Washington Post, helped Foxcroft to its best record in recent years (10-4-1), and a fifth-place ranking among Virginia independent schools. The senior co-captain has been named to the Post's All-Extra team – as well as to the All-Independent School League team – in each of her four years of high school.

A strong and vocal leader, Coil moved from defense to center mid this past season and added some scoring punch to her tenacious defense, finishing with four goals and five assists. She is a three-sport athlete, having earned All-ISL mention in basketball last winter.

Jessi is the daughter of Bruce and Nan Coil of Middleburg.
