· From pages 2 of the print edition

The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation has granted a $50,000 endowment to the Loudoun Museum in Leesburg, Virginia to support its educational programs for children. This endowment will allow the museum to continue and extend its outreach programs in school classrooms, host student field trips to the museum, and provide special educational events for youth groups and families.

"We are thrilled that with its generous grant, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation acknowledges the value of the Museum's educational programs for children," stated Janis Golden, Director of Education for the Loudoun Museum. She added, "Since 2004, we have provided our programs in the public schools at no cost to the Loudoun County Public Schools, and in 2005, presented education programs to more than 1,900 children."

As the County's history museum, one of the Loudoun Museum's missions is to educate the public about Loudoun's history through programs, interpretative exhibits and special events. The Museum designs its programs to be adapted to a range of ages, from elementary to high school students. Every museum program for school children fulfills Virginia's Standards of Learning (SOL) requirements.

Dr. Claude Moore established the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation (Fairfax, VA) in 1987 to enhance educational opportunities for young people in the Commonwealth of Virginia and elsewhere. The CMCF joins the Loudoun Education Foundation in supporting the Museum's educational programs. In 2005, the Museum received a grant from the LEF to deliver an educational program about life in Loudoun County during the French and Indian War to LCPS middle-school students throughout the county.

Over the past year, for Loudoun's children the museum also presented four Family Fun Days, hosted 62 Girl Scout troops for badge programs, and held three summer camps.
