"Late Entry" Returns Home A Champion
Prime Time Show Stables and Hidden Hollow returned to their Middleburg/Upperville home base in April with an impressive ribbon collection from the Winter Equestrian Festival circuit in Wellington, Fla. Trainer Ginny Edwards and owners Kathy and Sarah Chovnick partnered for the most prestigious hunter victory on the circuit when their Late Entry, ridden by professional Sandy Ferrell, topped the $45,200 AHJF Hunter Classic Spectacular of Palm Beach.
The bay, Holsteiner gelding earned the winner's share of $12,000 over a star-studded field of the country's best show hunters from the professional, junior and amateur-owner ranks. Horses and riders qualified for the Classic, held under the lights on the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club's International Ring, by earning a championship or reserve tricolor during the Bainbridge Florida Classic/WCHR Spectacular Horse Show.
The Chovnicks purchased Late Entry from Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Oare of Warrenton, Va., last fall as a junior hunter for Sarah, 15. She also shows him in the small junior division and earned impressive placings throughout the WEF.
"It was an incredible night," said Edwards. "He's a very brave horse, and this class was so easy for him. He and Sarah also did well throughout the circuit, and they won a class almost each week. He's turned out to be everything we'd hoped for and more."
Sarah continued Hidden Hollow's championship efforts with her own tricolor aboard Kate Spade, also owned by Prime Time Show Stables. The mare earned the tricolor the third week of the WEF circuit in the children's hunter division and won top ribbons several other weeks. In addition, Sarah garnered ribbons in the junior hunters aboard Piano Man in the smalls and Noir in the largest.
Hidden Hollow's adult amateur rider at WEF, Isabel Kurek, also took impressive ribbons in the 51 and over section aboard Fair And Square. "She won multiple classes in this very competitive division," added Edwards.
Kathy Chovnick and Ginny Edwards will soon be celebrating their first anniversary at their farm in Upperville. Hidden Hollow specializes in developing horses and riders for the show ring, from short stirrup to the grand prix jumper ranks. Improvements to the farm include a state-of-the-art outdoor ring and renovations to the barn and main house are continuing.
Edwards, who relocated from Maryland, trains horses and riders who have earned tricolors at the country's best shows, including the Devon Horse Show in Pennsylvania and the fall indoor horse shows such as the Pennsylvania National, the Washington International and the National horse shows.
"I'm looking forward to staying here this year and showing on the Virginia circuit," said Edwards, whose schedule includes shows such as HITS Culpeper, Upperville, Lexington and The Middleburg Classic. "We're thrilled to be here. Virginia has a rich history of horses, and it really feels like we've come home."
