Red vs Blue: Had Enough?

· By Dan Morrow (D) · From pages 10 of the print edition

Do three more years of Bush worry you? If not, go read the red column. If you're even a little worried, read on.

My fellow Americans in distress, take heart. It's never too early to start mobilizing our friends and neighbors to throw out the elected officials who have either actively supported the mean-spirited, narrow-minded arrogance, incompetence, and corruption of the Bush administration . . . or kept silent, hoping that a quiet complicity would escape notice. Choose your issue: Iraq, taxes, body armor, Katrina, traffic, corrupt officials, gas prices, immigration, medical care, Dubai and the ports, Enron, Abramoff, National Guard deployments, Halliburton, reform of the CIA, avian flu, prostitutes-and-poker-game lobby parties, earmarks, shop-lifting advisors, pseudo science, cynical piety, or just plain lying . . . if your elected representative is not part of the solution, he's part of the problem.

Don't tell me John Warner's good for Virginia or for the United States of America. Ask his office a question about any of the issues noted above . . . or check his web site. You'll either get no answer, a late answer, or, worse, a slick, made-for-TV, self-serving, "what-the-meaning-of-is-is" dose of temporizing, "offend-no-one" blather. Warner's backed Bush and his heck-of-a-job cronies for five years. Had enough? Get rid of him. Go to work for a good Democrat now, and rid us of Warner as soon as possible.

The same's true, in spades, for George Allen, as uncritical a Bush-backing Senator as any Halliburton-loving, help-the-rich, damn-the-poor, profiteering, ENRON-loving oil profiteer at home or abroad. "Our" George says he believes that tax cuts for the rich are driving the economy forward . . . though his own experts tell him that's not true . . . and that deficit spending on a scale unprecedented in all of human history is what's really keeping his cronies in yachts and working Virginians working . . . at two jobs, or more . . . at minimum wages . . . just to keep their heads above water. And don't ask about the war or Bush's approach to "security." Allen has backed Bush and his cronies for five years. Had enough? Get rid of him. Go to work for a good Democrat . . . like ITAA exec and long-time Hill vet, Harris Miller.

Then there's our beloved "moderate" Republican Frank Wolf . . . a "moderate" because he only follows the Bush Party Line 90% of the time. Is Frank's biennial self-serving support for some of our pet projects really worth sending yet another Bush-backing vote into the House? Is another photo-op-and-a-nod for, oh, let's say "Hallowed Ground," really our price for selling our souls and letting the administration run amok with little or no congressional oversight? And what's the REAL ROI on Wolf's efforts to date? Is he really the best we can do? He's backed Bush and his cronies for five years, and prayed we wouldn't notice. It's time to get rid of him. Go to work for a good Democrat . . . like Georgetown University Public Policy Institute Dean, Judy Feder. Had enough? Help Allen and Wolf show Warner the door.
