Red vs Blue: Here is the Plan
Once a month we write Red vs. Blue Column presenting a debate of partisan ideas.
I get the privilege of presenting the Republican view point. Right now the Republican view point may not be producing the best Polling numbers or at the election booths in the county. The Republican Party has always been the party of big ideas. A party founded on the idea that every man and woman with born freedom and liberty. And a party founded on the ideas of limited government and lower taxes.
These ideas have helped the Republican Party win elections. Often when the party finds itself adrift it is because we have drifted from these ideas.
Here in Virginia some members of our party have forgotten these ideas. We have some of our local State Senator Russ Potts pushing for bigger and bigger tax increases. And locally we have politicians seem to have forgotten the need to control the rate of growth in government and the need to fight against tax increases. Or maybe they are not sure how to accomplish this task. It has always seemed to me the only way for a local government to control taxes and government is to control the rate of residential growth. You can not control how fast government grows or control taxes unless you can control how fast houses are built in the county. For every new house in the county there is a demand for more schools, police, roads, and services in general. And to provide all those services government needs more tax dollars. So all of the taxpayers that already live here are forced to pay higher taxes so more people can move here and bring more cars on our roads and crowded schools to our neighborhoods. So right now the local Board of Supervisors is making important decisions about these very issues. The local Board is deciding whether to limit the number of houses allowed to be built in Western Loudoun. Or to be exact they are deciding whether to reenact a Zoning Ordinance that will greatly reduce the number of houses in Western Loudoun. The decision can reduce the number of potential homes in Western Loudoun by about 30,000 homes. And the longer they delay making this decision the more sprawl we get and the more cars we get on the already over crowded roads. Wow, seems like an easy decision. Why would any support 30,000 more home, about 60,000 more people and 60,000 more cars on the road?
So I think every good republican in Western Loudoun should be calling all the republicans on the Board of Supervisors in Loudoun right now. And tell them that if they want to start winning elections again they should enact the new Zoning Ordinance right away and say no to 30,000 more houses.
