The Mosby Heritage Area Association Presents Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee: Mosby Owned the Night

· From pages 9 of the print edition

The Gray Ghost Interpretive Group interprets life in the Mosby Heritage Area during the Civil War on Saturday, July 8th and August 12th from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the village of Atoka (4 miles west of Middleburg on Route 50). By the glow of lantern light these costumed interpreters, representing citizens of Mosby's Confederacy tell the stories of how their lives have been impacted by Colonel John Singleton Mosby and his Rangers.

Participants in the program will move to multiple locations throughout the village meeting their storytellers. For this reason comfortable shoes are recommended for those attending.

The first person accounts are full of drama and movement which makes the events come alive and provides an excellent way to understand the heritage of our region. Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee was created last year by the Gray Ghost Interpretive Group, known as GGIG, to interpret the history of our area in order to bring awareness of our unique heritage and help the citizens of our area today gain a sense of place.

The event is free and provides the opportunity to visit the Rector House, the site where Mosby signed the documents forming Company A of the 43rd Virginia Battalion, known as Mosby's Rangers. The program begins on the lawn behind the Rector House (the first building on the left as you leave Route 50 unto State Route 713). Parkers will be available to help with parking and directing participants to the Rector House.

For more than ten years the Mosby Heritage Area Association has been working to bring an awareness of and advocate for the preservation of the historic, cultural, and natural resources in the Mosby Heritage Area through educational projects such as the Cavaliers, Courage and Coffee program.
