Blood and Blunders: The August Bush Report
Sadly, August makes July look like tea time. Total American casualties in Iraq now exceed 21,600. More than 2660 have been killed. Bombings are still on the rise. Osama's still on the run. Bush still believes that there's no civil war there (just a vicious well-organized armed rebellion, with well-trained combatants, well supplied from abroad.) The Israelis forget to tell Bush they're going to invade Lebanon (while Condi Rice, literally, sits down with them for dinner). Hezbollah claims victory. Hamas rules in Gaza. American generals tell us there are not enough troops in the American Army to pacify Iraq, much less fight on another front. And then there are the "emerging threats. Iran. Korea. Avian flu. Old ladies in airplanes with hand cream.
Had enough? Throw as many out as possible in November . . . and grit your teeth. Two more years of Bush after that, no matter what.
