Salute to Senator John Warner - 60 Years of Public Service
Commander John P. Molière announced that Middleburg American Legion Post 295 will host a "Tribute to Senator John Warner's 60 Years of Public Service" on Saturday, November 18th at 2:30 p.m. at the Middleburg American Legion Hall (111 The Plains Road, Middleburg).
The event is open to the public and is a tribute to Senator John Warner, a member of the Middleburg American Legion Post 295. To commemorate his sixty years of public service, Senator Warner will be the recipient of Letters and Proclamations from the American Legion and from a variety of federal, state and local government agencies.
The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual help and community service organization. It has a worldwide membership of 2.8 million. "Senator Warner has done a lot for our region and our country over the past 60 years," states Commander Molière. "His service in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War is exemplary," Molière adds, "as is his continued service to this country as Secretary of the Navy and as U.S. Senator."
The American Legion in Middleburg, and across the country, has been an integral part of the fabric of America. After WWII, the local Post sponsored a Legion Baseball team, provided scholarships to college students, sponsored an annual Oratorical Contest for high schoolers, and sponsored rising high school seniors to Boys State. The Legion Hall has always been a gathering place for wedding receptions, wedding anniversaries, family reunions and has served as a meeting place for our conservation and preservation groups vital to our area. Somehow with the passing of our WWII vets our service to the community has tailed off, but in the last two years the Legion has made a steady comeback, sponsoring a young lady from Fauquier H.S. in the Oratorical Contest and sponsoring two Notre Dame Academy students to Boys State. We are looking to the community for support and to increase our membership. Senator Warner has graciously agreed to help the American Legion to return to the position of prominence it once held.
Refreshments will be served. There is no admission to the Legion Hall; donations to the American Legion will be graciously accepted. For information contact John Molière at (540) 364-3688 or by email at johnmoliere@aol.com
