Coil named to All-ISL Team
Foxcroft School's Chelsy Coil, a junior co-captain from Middleburg, VA., was named to the All-Independent School League recently by the prestigious Greater Washington, D.C.-area league's coaches. Coil, who played center forward, center mid and center back for 2005 Coach of the Year Katie Kantz this fall, scored nine of Foxcroft's 22 goals. She also had four assists and helped lead Foxcroft to a 9-5-2 record. The squad was ranked 10th among independent schools in Virginia and reached the second round of the ISL Tournament before falling, 1-0, in double overtime, to Stone Ridge.
Coil, a Division I college recruit prospect, and teammate Laura Block, a standout goalie in both field hockey and lacrosse, both competed at National Field Hockey Festival in Indio, CA, Nov. 23-26, playing for a regional all-star high school team. Block had a sensational season for Foxcroft, notching 161 saves and eight shutouts while allowing only 16 goals.
Also competing at the National Festival, in the Open division, was Coil's older sister, Jessi, who was the All-Loudoun Player of the Year as a Foxcroft senior in 2005. Jessi, a back at Kent State University this fall, was named to the 2006 Mid-American Conference All-Tournament Team in November after anchoring a defense that didn't allow any goal in its first three halves of the tournament. She played in all 22 games of her rookie season and started 21.
Julie Hoppman, another 2006 graduate of Foxcroft and a resident of The Plains,VA, helped the Springfield (MA) College field hockey squad to a 17-6 record and its third straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference title. Hoppman started 16 games and played in 17 for Springfield, one of the top Division III programs in the nation. At Sewanee: The University of the South, 2005 Foxcroft graduates Mo Baptiste of Berryville, VA, scored two goals and Lynn Hancock of Paris, KY, had a goal and an assist for the Tigers.
