New Goodstone Head Gardener MAY ADD TWENTY GARDENS
Goodstone Inn & Estate has announced the appointment of Airynee May as head gardener for the historic, luxurious inn and estate, located near Middleburg, Virginia. Ms. May brings a decade of experience in horticultural restoration, installation and maintenance to her new role.
"It is a pleasure to welcome Airynee to The Goodstone Inn & Estate," said Mark Betts, owner. "She is a gifted horticultural 'artist' and gardener, and we are so pleased to have her expertise at our property. We look forward to the exquisite horticultural tapestry she will create as she helps further position Goodstone as a lodging, dining and gardening destination experience."
In her new role, May will be responsible for the enhancement of The Goodstone Inn's existing gardens and orchards, and the creation of several new gardens throughout the 265-acre estate.
May intends to add cutting gardens, woodland gardens and a large vegetable garden and an expanded herb garden. In an effort to re-introduce native species, May will install an increased number of indigenous plants throughout the estate.
Also planned are serpentine garden paths for guests to use as they enjoy the flora and fauna of the gardens. Every garden at Goodstone is organically maintained using sustainable agricultural techniques.
May brings vast experience with historical gardening programs to her new role. She has designed and implemented garden restoration projects for properties in Virginia, including Oatlands Hamlet and Little Oatlands, as well as properties in West Virginia and Maryland. She has worked closely with historic gardens at Oak Wind Farms, Stonebrook Farms, Windfield Farm, and in Waterford and Leesburg, Virginia.
Previously associated with Garden of Delights, a high-end estate gardening resource located near Leesburg, May has also owned and managed her own business, Garden Guidance, providing consultation and educational programming on organic gardening, planting design and garden maintenance practices. She has also served as gardener for the River Creek Golf Club in Leesburg and the Oak Spring Farm in Upperville, Virginia.
Airynee May comes from a family of professional woman gardeners. Her mother, Andrea Watson, is a highly respected garden designer in North Carolina and her sister, Morgan Walker, owns Gardens of Delight Nursery.
Ms. May holds an Associate in Applied Science, Horticulture, degree from Northern Virginia Community College of Sterling, Virginia. She is an active member of the American Community Gardening Association.
Airynee May resides in Hamilton, Virginia.
