Goose Creek Defeats Golden Zebra 10-8
The Virginia International Polo Club hosted two of the nation's most accomplished polo players, Adam Snow and Owen Rinehart, in a 20-goal match that took place Friday, July 4, 2008. Snow and Rinehart joined the Goose Creek and Golden Zebra teams, respectively, to showcase the highest level of polo Virginia has seen in recent years.
The Goose Creek team, made up of Snow, Maureen Brennan, Martin Zegers and Cote Zegers, defeated Golden Zebra, consisting of Rinehart, Gonzalo Fucci, Charles Muldoon and Jay Fetner, with a final score of 10 to 8.
Goose Creek took the early lead in the first chukker, scoring two goals to Golden Zebra's one goal. Goose Creek kept their momentum, holding Golden Zebra to one goal or less in the second, third and fourth chukker. Golden Zebra made an impressive rally in the fifth and sixth chukkers scoring a total of five points but their efforts were not enough to surpass Goose Creek.
Martin Zegers, playing the number 2 position for Goose Creek, accounted for five of the 10 goals during the match. Snow, who played the number 3 position, scored the remaining five points.
Every member of Golden Zebra scored at least once during the match.
Snow was named the Most Valuable Player and received a beautiful piece of equestrian luggage from Oughton Limited. The Best Playing Pony was awarded to Stars and Stripes, owned by Jamie Vere Nicoll of Charlottesville and played by Rinehart.
