Dogs From Kabul Find a Friend in Middleburg
American soldiers befriend many stray dogs in Afghanistan but when they return home, many of the dogs must be left behind. When Elaine Broadhead learned that paws4people's AfghanDogZ was rescuing these animals and establishing them in the United States, she made major donation to help the worthy work continue.
Broadhead's donation will support the paws4prisons effort that is led by paws4people. The organization transports rescued dogs from Afghanistan to paws4prisons (www.paws4prisons.org) K-9 Training Program at the U.S. penitentiary in Hazelton, Bruceton Mills, West Virginia.
After the rescued dogs are rehabilitated and trained by prison inmates participating in the program, they will be placed with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorders and traumatic brain injuries.
"I love this project," Broadhead said, "because of the hope and new life it gives to veterans, inmates and animals, all victims caught in a brutal cycle of war and violence."
