Excellence Award for Middleburg Elementary
Middleburg Elementary School is one of 17 Loudoun schools to win the distinguished Governor's Award for Excellence in 2009.
Teachers, students and parents attended a recent Board of Supervisors meeting to receive the award, the highest honor under the Virginia Index of Performance incentive program created by Governor Timothy Kaine to encourage advanced learning and achievement in the Commonwealth's public schools.
To qualify for the Governor's Award schools must meet all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and achieve Governor Kaine's goals for elementary reading; enrollment in Algebra 1 by grade 8; enrollment in college-level courses; teachers with advanced diplomas and increased attainment of career and industry certifications.
Schools may also earn bonus points for other performance measures including the Governor's nutrition and physical activity scorecard.
