Historic Charity Event Returns in New Form
For 60 years the Fabulous Rummage Sale at Emmanuel Episcopal Church was one of the "must do" events in Middleburg. Shoppers flocked to the yearly event in hopes of buying designer label clothing at a fraction of the original prices or maybe even finding a dress once worn by Jackie Kennedy.
But the sale ended in 2003, a victim of dwindling volunteer help. Now, a new event will take its place. It's not a rummage sale but rather the Great Emmanuel Public Auction to be held September 12 at the church on Washington Street.
Donations for the event are accepted every Saturday until September 5 from 9 am until noon at Middleburg Self Storage on Federal Street. Any serviceable item is welcomed except clothing or large appliances. Items wanted include furniture, antiques, sporting goods, lawn and garden equipment, horse and pony items and running cars and trucks.
The sale will be conducted in two parts. The outdoor items will be sold in the church parking lot beginning at 10 a.m. and then in the parish hall for the furniture, antiques and other lots. So far, 50 items have been donated and auction organizer expect to have more than 300 lots by sale time. There will be no buyers premium or sale taxes charged at the auction. Admission is free and open to the public.
