Lions Club Helps Local Women in Breast Cancer Fight
The Middleburg Lions Club has donated $1,000 to the Cherry Blossom Breast Cancer Fund's campaign to eliminate breast cancer in local women and men.
The Lions Club, a community service organization of business and professional men and women, picked the Cherry Blossom Fund because of its success in increasing the access to and reducing the cost of mammograms and treatment for uninsured/underinsured local women, in educating all women on the need for regular screenings, and in improving local breast cancer technology.
"As men and women committed to our community", said President Ron Lang, "we decided that breast cancer detection and treatment are significant local needs in which we could assist. The Cherry Blossom Fund's impact since its inception has been noteworthy and is worthy of our support."
Mary Jo Jackson, a director of the Cherry Blossom Fund and a breast cancer survivor, in accepting the donation, said that the significant Lions Club donation will be put to good use. "We were just selecting the medical and educational providers for our 2009 funding, so the Middleburg Lions Club's donation was a very heartwarming event. On behalf of women and men confronting breast cancer, we thank the Lions."
