Forty-One!

· By Blue Notes - Ken Rietz · From pages 8 of the print edition

The brother nodded to a past glance of all existing and potential candidates to become part of this nation's 41-member majority. The leader nodded to the judges of the Supreme Court that have the authority to block the legislation that gave corporations the vote.

The number needed to stop any and all progressive legislation affecting control of rampant corporate greed, job creation, renewable energy, the environment, women's rights, and the rule of law? "41."

The number needed to bring on the second great depression? "41."

And wasn't "41" the father of . . . "43?"

Court to Congress: Corporations Are People Too!

Now come the activist judges of the Supreme Court (or at least five of them) to declare that corporations, as legal "persons," enjoy full first-amendment rights under the Constitution.

I beg to agree! And urge the Congress and Administration to extend the Court's decision to extend not only the rights of citizens, but their duties as well.

As corporate "persons" under the law, banks, and insurance companies, and Xe (the entertainer formerly known as Blackwater) should, for example, be subject to the draft.

Pay for executives of the drafted corporations should be no more than the pay of four-star generals . . . if that.

Insubordination and conduct unbecoming should be career-enders.

The ultimate reward for conduct of special merit . . . indeed, the ultimate token of recognition for heroic effort, above and beyond the call of duty . . . should be a small piece of ribbon, representing medal rarely worn.

Seems only just, no?
