The American Planning Association has named Washington Street as one of the top 10 "Great Streets in America."

The Association noted not only the streets historic architecture, but its special "sense of place" which, in the words of the Association, " . . . epitomizes the local equine and hunting culture of the Virginia Piedmont region."

Each year for the past four years, the Association has sought out, evaluated, and given special recognition to what it believes are the country's Great Streets, Great Neighborhoods and Great Public Spaces.

Planner and Zoning Administrator David Beniamino submitted the Town's very first application for the APA honors this spring.
