Daisy the Pig at Middleburg Community Center

· From pages 20, 21 of the print edition

On a recent and surprisingly snowy March morning, the Middleburg Community Center welcomed Farmer Paul Minor of Bristol, Connecticut, and Daisy, the world's most famous potbelly pig. Also in attendance, and riding in her own specially outfitted carriage, was Lily the pug, one of Daisy's companions on the farm. Together they presented their "Pig Out on Reading" program to a crowd of more than 40 enthusiastic pre-schoolers.

After learning about Daisy's exciting life and travels to libraries, schools, and senior centers around the country, the children raised their right hands and made a pledge to read more books. Then each had the opportunity to pet, kiss, and hug their new porcine friend who snorted and squealed with approval. The March visit marked Farmer Minor and Daisy's third public appearance in Middleburg.
