· From pages 12, 13 of the print edition

Olivia Jane Johnson, a junior at Foxcroft School, recently was selected as a finalist in Photographer's Forum's 32nd Annual College and High School Photography contest for a photo she took in India two years ago, Foxcroft Visual Arts teacher Gary W. Cox announced Monday.

More than 17,700 photographs, taken by students from around the world, were submitted to the contest, which is sponsored by Nikon, U.S.A. Johnson's photo of a snake charmer and his serpent received honorable mention from judges Dr. Janet Bonsall of the University of Central Missouri, Christopher Broughton of the Brooks Institute of Photography, and Mark Takeuchi, Art Center College of Design.

The daughter of Kelly and John Johnson, Olivia is quite a talented photographer. A stunning photo of a bee drawing honey from a flower last year earned her a spot in a Best of 2011 Photography anthology published by Boulevard of Photographers and she had been accepted into an Advanced Photography Workshop in Mongolia next summer.
