Hughey-Guy to Middleburg School

· By Dan Morrow · From pages 1, 19 of the print edition

At the May 14 meeting of the Middleburg Town Council Dave Quanbeck, Middleburg Charter School Board President, formally introduced the school's new interim principal, Miriam Hughey-Guy.

Hughey-Guy replaces Barbara Smith, who resigned in mid April after experiencing ongoing credential transfer problems, and later, visa issues that effectively barred her from re-entering the United States from Canada.

Formerly principal of Barcroft Elementary School in Arlington County, Hughey-Guy has long been associated with the movement to establish the Middleburg Charter School, which early on adopted the DaVinci curriculum she was instrumental in developing.

Hughey-Guy has agreed to serve though the transition to a new, full time principal, which the school hopes to have in place by July 1. The first Monday in August will mark the beginning of the school's 2015-2016 academic year.

Both enrollment and enthusiasm, Quanback reported, remain high.
