Give/Choose: Community Day of Giving

· From pages 8, 9 of the print edition

The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties once again will offer a community day of charitable giving through GiveChoose.org on May 2. (Early giving began on April 18.)

Ninety charities serving Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties have enrolled to participate. Programs supporting animal welfare, environment, health, human services, education, youth, arts and culture, and community development are represented. GiveChoose helps local organizations raise needed funding in a highly cost-effective way while also connecting individuals with charities in their backyard. "It's a perfect match," says Amy Owen, Executive Director for the local Community Foundation. "Donors choose a charity that represents their passion to make a difference."

GiveChoose.org is a specially designed online portal that tracks each gift made in real time on May 2. As gifts come in to support a donor's chosen nonprofit with a gift of $10 or more, the leaderboard will increase. Charities also leverage those gifts to compete for monetary awards from a "prize pool" throughout the 24-hour period.

The Prize Pool is a collection of sponsorship gifts from local businesses and funders, including 100WomenStrong, Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, Toth Financial, Alpha Graphics Loudoun, Backflow Technology, Loudoun Insurance Group, Wells Fargo, John Marshall Bank, Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and others.

Since its first year in 2014, GiveChoose has raised almost $400,000 for local charities.

The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties is a grant-making organization that promotes community philanthropy, working with local donors who create local giving circles and personalized endowment funds.

The Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties is also dedicated to building partnerships and leadership initiatives, including the Faces of Loudoun community awareness campaign. Its varied donor-driven funds have granted out more than $4 million into the community since inception in 1999. More information is available at CommunityFoundationLF.org.
