Jumping into the Twilight

· By Nancy Kleck · From pages 1 of the print edition

After being on hiatus due to Covid, Twilight Jumpers has returned to Great Meadow to the delight of competitors and spectators alike. Modeled after Great Meadow's highly successful Twilight Polo on August night, with not Twilight Jumpers on Friday night, the event originated at Robbie Banner's New Year's Eve party eleven years ago in a conversation with Alden and Gavin Moylan. There would be two invitational events each: the Adult Amateur Jumper Classic 1.10m and a $5,000 Mini Prix 125m, limited to 20 horses each. Entry fees would be low for competitors, and spectators would get in for a fixed price/carload and be welcome to bring their best tailgate fixings. And afterwards, a DJ would draw the party up to the pavilion for a few more hours of dancing to top tunes under disco lights.

Year after year, the events drew some of the area's top riders and their horses to a experience under bright lights at night, a scenario that could be damaging to horses. It has been a low key event.

Behind the fun lies a very serious cause. Proceeds go to Gavin Moylan's High Performance Equestrian Foundation, Inc., a non-profit whose mission is to provide financial support for the capable, under-funded rider in times of financial, medical or personal.

The next Twilight Jumpers is Friday, August 12, all day, September 9. Gates open at 6:30 pm at The Meadow. Tickets are $30/ carload. The first class starts at 7pm and you'll be home by 11. More information can be found on their Facebook page at www.EquestianFoundation.org.
