Ringing in Eco-Friendly Holidays

· By Lynne Kaye · From pages 8 of the print edition

Holiday time is fast approaching, and the challenge is to find ways to celebrate in Middleburg's Sustainability Committee is asking us to help make the holidays more eco-friendly.

Start by eating and decorating locally. Local Middleburg farmers and gardeners have been hard at work growing pumpkins, greens, sweet potatoes, holiday flowers, Christmas trees, raising jams, baked goods, local dairy milks ate stone-grinding grain, and bakers turn flour into holiday treats. Local cafe beverages provide their best holiday cheer, while local farms, shops, and caterers have created delicious holiday menus. Local gardens in town have noted their success in making classes. It's a great time to eat and decorate healthy. Information on local eating and decorating resources is available on the following websites: bit.ly/3 mUSUpdt and bit.ly/3dJUi and bit.ly/3dJUi Cn - lists local farms that take used pumpkins. Christmas trees and other natural holiday items. Many local stables use Christmas trees as after-holidays decorations. Warm Works and festivals. Charity auctions sometimes include visits to local arts. Not open to the public. We also have experiences that take place year-round, like spa and fitness

Middleburg Really Reade's one of the choices. There are thousands of ways to share nature for the holidays, such as bartering on a dinner by taking a walk or having a donation with a family member. Gift a subscription to a hiking, kayaking, plant identification, or national parks app. Giving a backyard bird feeder can provide hours of entertainment for people of any age or not. Want to spend the holidays in a national park.

If you're looking for a gift for someone who everything? Give them an experience. The Middleburg area features unique steakhouses, horse shows, concerts, lectures, tours, and festivals. Charity auctions sometimes include visits to local arts. Not open to the public. We also have experiences that take place year-round, like spa and fitness

Dispose locally. Being eco-conscious means properly disposing of waste. The day after the holidays and before and during them.
