Big Baseball Summer Fun

· By By Lisa Leonard, Staff Writer · From pages 14 of the print edition

THE LOUDOUN RANGERS have arrived and it is baseball at its best folks! They are your baseball team, Loudoun County. The Rangers are a new expansion team from the Valley Baseball League, which is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), endorsed by Major League Baseball. They are the newest club in the 10-team wooden-bat league, the way they play ball in the Majors. In fact, at Ranger's Games, you'll be watching some of the nation's best collegiate athletes many of which will soon be drafted into the Pro's. These young stars still play for the love of the game, giving it their all on the field, making for some of the finest ball games you'll see this summer.

The home of the Loudoun Rangers is conveniently located for county residents at Mickie Gordon Memorial Park in Middleburg, VA (directions below). The first game ever in the club's history is a home game, Friday June 4th at 7:30pm vs. the Front Royal Cardinals. Be there, it will be an inexpensive family outing; adults $5, children 6-12 $2, and the younger ones attend for free.

There are many ways the community can become actively involved. Bob Dobkowski, General Manager of the Loudoun Rangers said, "Our strongest need is for Host Families, Our collegiate athletes need families to stay with beginning June for approximately 2 months. Each of these young gentlemen is an ambassador for their respective Universities, and each love to play professional baseball. We hope that the families in Loudoun County will embrace this opportunity and support the players and the team as volunteer Host Families." The families' support does not require meals or transportation for their guest player, and hosts receive season passes for the entire family.

If you are interested in being a Loudoun Ranger Host Family contact Bob Dobkowski, General Manager by email at: rangersloudoun@aol.com, or call 1-888-845-0341.

The Loudoun Rangers need other types of volunteers as well. For detailed information visit them on the web at: http://www.loudounrangers.com/volunteer.htm.
