August Court Days in Leesburg
Leesburg's August Court Days celebration, set for August 21 and 22, promises to be one of the best in the 28-year modern history of the town's annual rollicking street-fair-plus-reenactment of a glorious colonial tradition of court, courtship, and trade.
Citizens from both the 18th and 21st centuries will gather to buy and sell handmade crafts, listen to continuous country/folk music, meet friends and neighbors, exchange news and gossip, and enjoy lots of great food.
Colonial militia will muster at the Courthouse. Colonial lawyers and judges will conduct mock trials (based on the actual historical trials on record), and voice their concerns about the King, the rebels, and the chances of a war for American Independence.
More than 200 authentically dressed reenactors will be on hand, demonstrating their dress, camp styles, utensils, and weapons, as well as their opinions. Two groups of Maryland militia and frontiersmen and buckskinners from the distant Valley are expected. A full company of the King's Scottish regulars will also be on hand to maintain order and, no doubt, defend the honor and authority of his majesty, King George III.
This fun-filled, educational, family-oriented fair and festival is centered on the intersections of King and Market Streets in Leesburg. Busses and large groups are welcome.
Admission is $5 per person over the age of 10 and $2 per person aged 5-10. Children under 5 are admitted free.
