Pentagon Memorial Fund

· From pages 10 of the print edition

The Pentagon Memorial Fund is a non-profit organization established by the families of the 184 victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in Washington, DC.

Its mission is to provide for the construction and permanent maintenance of the Pentagon Memorial, a beautiful park located at the grounds of the attack that will provide a place for reflection, remembrance and renewal.

The fund's goal is to raise some $30 million for the memorial project: $17.5 million for construction of the memorial, and $10 million to create a permanent endowment for the memorial's maintenance.

James Laychak, President of the Pentagon Memorial Fund and brother of victim David Laychak, said, "The victims of the September 11 attack in Washington, DC-our parents, children, brothers and sisters, colleagues and friends-represented a cross-section of America. They were simply going about their everyday lives, yet we lost them in a horrible tragedy. We welcome the support of people from all walks of life as we build the Pentagon Memorial as a tribute to our nation's loss and enduring spirit."

Executive committee member General Hugh Shelton, United States Army (Ret.) and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said, "The Pentagon Memorial will honor the men, women and children taken from us on that dark moment in our country's history. As a site for remembrance, reflection and renewal, the memorial is also an important gift to the families, the survivors and all those who will visit it."
