· From pages 16, 17 of the print edition

Middleburg Financial Corporation has elected Keith W. Meurlin to its board of directors. Mr. Meurlin is the former vice president and manager of Washington Dulles International Airport. Major General Meurlin was recently called to active duty and is serving as the acting Vice Commander, Air Force Material Command, providing logistical and sustainment support necessary to keep U.S. Air Force weapons systems ready for war.

Commenting on his appointment to the board of directors, Mr. Meurlin said, "I couldn't be happier. The board and I share the same vision for what a full service financial services company should be to its community and its clients. I look forward to joining the Middleburg team upon my return and getting started."

Joe Boling, president and chairman of the board was also pleased, "Keith's a great addition. Whether managing operations at Dulles International Airport or directing our troops, he's exhibited an ability to accomplish objectives in stellar fashion, regardless of the hurdles. We greatly appreciate the service he's providing to our country and look forward to his return soon."

Mr. Meurlin managed Dulles Airport through the most rapid period of growth in its history. During his 24-year tenure at Dulles Airport, Mr. Meurlin added new passenger terminals, quadrupled cargo facilities, established the first ramp control tower at Dulles and created an automated pass and identification function that was recognized as an FAA model for Category X airports.

In addition to his service at Dulles airport, Major General Meurlin continued his military career in the Air Force Reserve. Major General Meurlin attained the highest rank a traditional reservist can achieve in the Air Force Reserve and is one of only 25 Major Generals. He is responsible for the application of more than 2,000 reservists throughout the command, conducting research, development, testing and evaluation.

Major General Meurlin directed maintenance and logistics efforts for the initial combat efforts during Operation Iraqi Freedom and addressed issues related to the massive mobilization of reservists after September 11, 2001.

Mr. Meurlin's community involvement includes the boards of the Reston Chamber of Commerce, the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way, Loudoun County. He was past regional chairman of the United Way, Loudoun County, past board member of the United Way of the National Capital Area, and chairman of the Heart Association of Northern Virginia. In 2000, Mr. Meurlin was the recipient of Loudoun County's Rotary Citizen of the Year award and in 2002 was the recipient of the Tower of Dulles Award, Committee for Dulles.

Mr. Meurlin received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Vermont and his master's degree in systems management from the University of Southern California. He is also a graduate of the FAA Executive School.
