Field Hockey League Continues to Grow

· From pages 29 of the print edition

In just two short seasons the local grassroots upstart field hockey league Loudoun Field Hockey Association (LFHA) has recruited over 200 members. Providing a new sports opportunity to girls in Loudoun County, LFHA has created an excitement with parents who grew up playing the sport and want to pass along what they gained from the sport to their daughters. The LFHA adult league has also provided an opportunity for women to pick up the game again. Offering spring and fall seasons has even drawn players from Fairfax County, where the sport is played in high schools. Registration is currently open for the Fall 2007 youth and adult seasons.

On Sunday, May 20th LFHA is hosting an end-of-season tournament/party where teams from the East, West, and Adult leagues will play games, eat, and celebrate another successful season. It's a great opportunity for the community to see some great field hockey games, learn more about the league, and enjoy some good food. The event is being held at NVCC-Loudoun Campus in Sterling from Noon-7PM with youth games played from noon to 3:30 and adult games played 3:30-4:30. Food will be served from 4-7PM; meal tickets will be sold at the event to raise money for the league.

Early this summer, in partnership with DMB Sports Camps, coaches from LFHA are running a three-day field hockey camp a Claude Moore Park, June 20th-22nd. The camp is open to girls aged 8-17 and is for both new and experienced players. Equipment rental is available.
