Wingfield Farm Opens Exquisite Gardens

· By Dan Morrow · From pages 1, 8 of the print edition

Meg Gardner, who has been a very good friend to Middleburg Humane Foundation over the years, will open her Wingfield Farm Gardens to the public May 10th and 11th to benefit the local organization. For anyone who has not visited the horticultural masterpieces she created in Middleburg, this is a date you will want to mark in your calendar immediately.

"The gardens have not been open to the public for many years," Mrs. Gardner explained, "…and so many people ask for a tour, that I decided it was a good time to have a public viewing. Middleburg Humane Foundation's work is very important to me, so I'm delighted that the proceeds of the tour will benefit their wonderful work with animals."

Within the year, Rizzoli will publish a garden book including Wingfield Farm, but nothing will substitute for a personal tour through the many terraced and secluded leafy rooms Mrs. Gardner created.

With a palette of evergreen hues and exquisite architectural pieces from around the world, Meg Gardner designed a series of walks and bowers that are exceptionally sophisticated and charming.

She insists that she was inspired to garden because the farm looked untidy when she, her husband and friends rode up after a hunt. Then, when she stopped riding, it was her gardens that occupied her time. Her time was invested wisely and the return in visual amusement, intrigue and pleasure is pure benefit to all invited to enjoy.
