United Methodist Celebrates 150 Years
Middleburg's United Methodist Church formally celebrated its 150th anniversary on Sunday, September 21, 2008. In April, Middleburg's Town Council unanimously supported a resolution praising the church for its community spirit, leadership, service and acts of friendship and compassion over the past century and a half. In addition to its spiritual work, the 150-member church serves as headquarters for Seven Loaves, a five-church consortium that collects and distributes food, clothing and other supplies to needy families.
In a September 21 Washington Post article, Loudoun County's historian and mapmaker, Eugene Scheel, quoted United Methodist's Ed Wright on how such a relatively small congregation manages to do so much good. "We don't fill our church with people," Wright said, "but we fill it with God's love."
