10 Foxcroft Students Earn AP Scholar Honors

· From pages 24 of the print edition

Three current students and seven recent graduates of Foxcroft School have earned AP Scholar designation from the College Board for exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams taken last May. This is the fifth year in a row that Foxcroft has seen the number of students so honored reach double digits – an impressive record considering it's small size (fewer than 190 students total!).

Gabriella DiCarlo, a senior from Miami, FL, led a group of five students who earned AP Scholar with Honor status. These students achieved an average of 3.25 on all the AP exams they took and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of the tests. She was joined by Class of 2008 members Michael Babus, a Middleburg, VA, resident now attending the University of Virginia; Yifan "Molly" Hu (Shanghai, China; Tulane University); Seline Paulino (Washington, DC; Scripps College) and Catherine York (Upperville, VA; College of William & Mary)

Seniors Chelsea Dickson (West Grove, PA) and Yun-Jin Jang (Seoul, South Korea) and three members of the Class of 2008 were named AP Scholars, for receiving grades of 3 or higher on three or more AP Exams. The recent graduates were: Rachel Tolbert (Tuckahoe, NY, and Accra, Ghana, Johns Hopkins University), Sharon Tseng (Taipei, Taiwan; University of Southern California) and Yu Zhang (Shanghai, China; Illinois Institute of Technology).

The College Board's AP Program offers students the opportunity to take college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit and/or advanced placement for successful performance on the exams given each year in May. About 18 percent of the more than 1.3 million high school students in 16,000 secondary schools worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.
