Virginia's Premier Equine Sports Medicine Clinic Gathered Top International Veterinary Talent to Teach Advances in Sport Horse Medicine.

Sport horse veterinarian, Dr. Kent Allen of Virginia Equine Imaging (VEI) was host to the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) this weekend. ISELP's goal is to provide contemporary knowledge and techniques in the continually evolving field of equine locomotor analysis which will better prepare the equine clinician to understand and manage lameness conditions in the equine athlete.

Over 100 Equine Veterinarians from 8 countries around the world gladly accepted Dr. Allen's invitation to learn about the innovative new practices presented in this 3-day workshop.

The primary presenter, Dr. Jean-Marie Denoix from the CIRALE Center in France, is renowned for his expertise in equine anatomy and imaging techniques. Presentations made by Dr. Denoix are completed by practical sessions on live horses allowing attendees to assimilate technical data directly useful in their every day practice. Such a session was organized at Virginia Equine Imaging this past weekend.

"Many thanks to Dr. Kent Allen for the perfect organization of this module and, in general, for the administrative leadership of ISELP."

"We at Virginia Equine Imaging are proud to host this meeting of the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology. This Society had its genesis in Middleburg in 2006 with Professor Denoix and has grown to be one of the most prestigious equine sports medicine groups in the world," says Dr. Allen.

There are three more ISELP meetings in the United States and one in Europe this year.

Dr. Allen is well regarded as a leader of innovative practices within the sport horse veterinary community. He was one of the pioneers in the field of nuclear medicine imaging and has been reading nuclear bone scans since the late 1980's. Virginia Equine Imaging was the first practice in the United States to use high energy shockwave on the horse in early 2001, and the first veterinary practice in the world to utilize direct digital radiology (DDR).

This radiographic technology has since become the standard that all others are judged against. Dr. Allen passed the certifying exam for ISELP last fall and became one of six certified members in equine locomotor pathology in the world. VEI utilizes the latest in state of the art technology in diagnostic imaging, image storage and sports medicine treatment.
