Shooting the Messenger
The opposition to health care reform is taking a very nasty turn. Lies and deception from the opponents of reform come in the form of inflammatory emails from highly organized right wing groups that instill fear among the mostly uneducated republican base.
These are the Palin supporters and Obama haters who are using town hall meetings as forums to spread their ideology through disruption. They are rude, crude people who have no respect for decorum. Shouting and screaming, seeming out of control most of the time, they are a disgrace. But those who are using them as tools to try and bring down the Obama presidency are the real culprits.
The question I must ask: where were all these people who are now so concerned about the cost of health care reform when Bush was taking us to an illegal war that has already cost more than the projected cost of health care over the next 10 years. Seems to me that money spent saving lives instead of taking them is a far better investment!!
This is not just about health care reform, it goes much deeper than that. These people are so fearful of anything that has the tiniest tinge of socialism that they are totally irrational and cannot speak in a civil manner, they would rather shout obscenities than have a discussion.
At a town hall meeting today, Aug. 11, Clare McCaskill assured the rabble rousers in the crowd that the Senate bill did not contain language about abortions being paid for by a government health plan, she said she would not vote for a single payer system, she said she wanted a plan for all Americans that was as good as those plans Congress enjoys, and do you know how they responded? They shouted at the top of their lungs "we don't believe you" How, I ask, do you respond to that, she said "what do you want me to do, go home"
It seems as though I am coming down hard on Republicans but I would bet my life on the fact that none of the rude disruptive people were democrats. The Republican party should be ashamed of these ignorant people and tell them so. Republican congresspersons should denounce these tactics and the representatives who are good enough to hold these town hall meetings should, at the least, demand that all attendees show valid identification to prove they live in the state and are constituents, Bush would not allow anyone to his events who were not solid contributors to the party.
Get smart Dems and do some of the same, keep these ignorant people out and do not give them a stage to spread their vile rhetoric.
