The Sun and Salamander Rising?
It is an old political strategy. When things start to turn against you, attack the messenger. Thus, Pelosi called the crowds protesting Health Care Reform "UNAMERICAN." Harry Reid called them "EVIL DOERS." Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, blamed cable television.
President Obama told protesters to shut up and "get out of the way" of the discussion.
A key Obama spokesperson and strategist said the persistent crowds questioning the Democrat's plan were Republicans frustrated by recent election losses.
One look at the large number of seniors at the Town Hall meetings should dispel the notion that these are Republican plants. Furthermore, the violence at these meetings seems to come from Obama allies - the unions - not the Republicans.
The Obama strategy to blame the messenger has backfired. Recent poll numbers show over half of the people now oppose Health Care Reform as presented in its 1,428 page House Bill. As one Town Hall attendee pointed out, instead of fostering Health Care Reform, Obama and Congress have "awakened a sleeping giant." The clear message from the American people is that they don't like what they have heard.
Obama will learn. We value our freedom of speech. Attacking the messenger will only mean a further drop in his poll numbers. The biggest mistake he has made is not providing the leadership to create a viable Health Care Reform plan. He punted the leadership to Pelosi and her fellow Liberals in Congress. This resulted in the August Town Hall meetings being held without a specific Obama proposal.
Pelosi and Obama have refused to put the one reform on the table that would lead to REAL Health Care Cost Reduction: LEGAL REFORM . Their trial lawyer allies just won't allow that subject to surface. Health Care reform isn't dead but it sure is on life support. Obama has only himself to blame and his latest strategy of abandoning bi-partisanship and blaming Republicans is also a loser.
