Seven Students, One Teacher Elected to Foxcroft School Cum Laude Society
Seven seniors, two juniors, and a faculty member have been elected to the Foxcroft School chapter of the Cum Laude Society, chapter president Susan Erba announced Wednesday (Feb.3).
The Cum Laude Society is a national high school scholastic honor society modeled on the collegiate Phi Beta Kappa.
Katherine Fox of Mercer Island, WA, Jayne Gunter (Lucedale, MS), Su Bin Lee (Daejeon, South Korea), Robyn Low (Philadelphia), Meghan Thomas (Carlisle, PA), Hunter Wilhoit (Mt. Pleasant, SC), and Lindsey Yales (Charlotte, NC) were selected, joining classmates Grace Murphy (Middleburg) and Rachel Giampa (Warrenton, VA) who had the distinction of being elected as juniors a year ago.
This year, juniors Margaret Brown of Boyce, VA, and JaeYeon of Seoul earned the special honor of being admitted in their first year of eligibility. In addition, Science teacher Lindsay Bowser, a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hobart-William Smith College, was selected.
The Foxcroft Chapter, founded in 1958, is one more than 325 Cum Laude Society chapters across the United States. Erba, who chairs the Mathematics Department at Foxcroft, said that only students that evidence a genuine interest in the pursuit of knowledge, exhibit outstanding academic integrity, and have superior academic records as reflected in their course load, grade point average, and other factors, are selected for induction.
Head of School Mary Louise Leipheimer, Academic Dean Alexander Northrup and faculty members W. Glenn Kantz, Steven Matthews, Matthew Mohler and Mia Noffsinger will join Erba in conferring the honors on the newest group of academic stars at the official induction, which will take place at Foxcroft's Commencement in May.
